When Massimo Losappio accepted a surgical position in the small town of Montalcino, he had initially intended that his stint there would be brief. Instead, he fell in love with the land, its people, and the local wines. Driven by their passion to create their own wines, Massimo and his wife Marialuce purchased Villa Le Prata in 1980. Soon after, they planted their first hectare of grapes and began the process of converting what was once a hunting lodge into a winery and bed & breakfast. Today, Villa Le Prata produces Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino from vineyards in three different zones around Montalcino, resulting in wines that are an exemplary representation of the terroir. We will be pouring the following selections from Villa Le Prata:

2014 Rosso di Montalcino $35

2012 Brunello di Montalcino $75

Traveling north of Montalcino, Querceto di Castellina can be found between the villages of Radda and Castellina in Chianti. Initially purchased as a country home by her father in 1945, Laura Masini took over the management of the estate in 1989. She and her husband Giorgio Di Battista restored the 15th century structures, and revitalized the vineyards and surrounding property. They converted the estate into an agriturismo and culinary school, with classes taught by Laura, herself.

In 1998 their eldest son Jacopo joined the family business with the focus of producing wine from the estate's vineyards. It was under Jacopo's directive that the winery at Querceto di Castellina was founded. Over the years the winery has continued to grow, producing not only Chianti Classico, but an array of different varieties. We will be pouring the following selections from Querceto di Castellina:

2016 Toscana Bianco (Viogner and Roussane) $40

2015 Chianti Classico L’aura $27

Further information on the wines being poured will be made available soon. The cost of the tasting is $15 for general admission, and free for Soif Wine Club Members. Tickets may be purchased below, or in our retail shop.
